As part of the 1916 Centenary Commemoration, members of the 27 th Infantry Battalion presented St. Kevin’s N.S. with the national flag on Tuesday 22 nd September. Sgt. Flanagan and Sgt. Kerr along with Private Stephen Morgan handed over the flag. They advised us how to keep and respect it and in a short history lesson they told us that in1848 Francis Meagher, a Waterford man, conceived the idea of a flag to represent all the people of Ireland. Although flown on a number of occasions it wasn’t until the Easter Rising in 1916 that it came to prominence. Today it flies proudly to represent Ireland around the world.
